One of the very best bands to have come along over the last 15 years has been the brilliantly monikered .. And You Will Know Us by the Trail Of Dead who have put out a series of blistering albums. However where they really come to life is live. I’ve seen lots of bands over the years who, when taken out of the comfort of the studio, seem to shrink when it comes to the stage and consequently disappoint. There are others who come with the attitude of preening arrogance and that they are doing you a favour to play in your town. Trail Of Dead are different. Every time I’ve seen them it’s as if they have the attitude that this might be the last gig they are going to play so they better put their heart and soul into it and play a good one. Songs surge and they seem to generate energy as if being blasted down the Hadron Collider and above all else they seem to be having FUN, something that a lot of bands could learn from. They are also multi instrumentalists and it never ceases to amaze me how they can produce such coherence out of apparent anarchy. Lets face it they Rock. So although this year I’ve not been to as many gigs as I would like I was not missing it when The Dead came to town. They did not disappoint and it was without doubt the best gig I went to this year. If you get the chance to see them, then blow your cobwebs off and get down there.
